Once you’ve decided on purchasing an above ground pool for your garden, the next thing is to make sure that you have your space prepared to ensure it’s okay to leave outside for extended periods during the summer months. The ground is probably the most important step, so here are a few things to consider to get it right. Choose your area wisely. Ensure that you allow additional space on all sides of the garden pool.
How long do you plan to have your pool out?
As the pool rests on the ground, the earth can shift and things can become unstable over weeks and months. This risks damaging your pool. In this case you might want to consider some sort of support beneath the pool. Something like the very large Exit Pool 5.4m x 2.5m x 1.22m will have a very large surface area and if there are inconsistencies in the ground beneath your pool it can lead to serious problems.
Concrete Beneath an Above Ground Pool
Some of the smaller above ground pools do not require any work on the ground, especially the simple to use inflatable Bestway pools. Still, it’s always helpful if you already have a concreted or slabbed area to place your pool (such as a garden patio). Having a solid area to place the pool means you won’t have to worry about an uneven surface affecting your pool or causing the ground to move over time. Another option is to place slabs for the pool. You will need to ensure the surface area is level and also place extra padding beneath the pool to prevent the liner from wearing over time.
Ensure that your ground is level. If it isn’t, it could cause damage to your pool. The best way to ensure you get a good level is to use a levelling frame. Mowing your lawn as short as possible will allow you to get a clear view when creating your levelling frame. Your level should be larger than the pool to give you some wiggle room. Sand is an inexpensive way to add a base beneath your pool. It’s inexpensive and easy to lay. Though it may not be as effective as other materials in keeping a good level.
