Hot Tubs in Ireland
There’s no doubt that there is a common misconception around Irish weather being unsuitable for having a hot tub and this couldn’t be further from the truth. We imagine the sun shining before going out into our backyards and getting undressed and getting into water. Anything else would seem strange. But think of our Nordic neighbours who are happy to tell us that the moment you want to run indoors from the weather is actually the best time to use your hot tub. This is a great way to enjoy a little Irish rain from the comfort of your back garden.
Here in Ireland we know well how long and cold a winter can be. For the most part Irish people rarely use their garden during the winter months. Having a hot tub is a great way of getting more use out of your garden during the colder months whilst reaping the benefits of total relaxation after a stressful day, a long day on your feet or just making the most of having the opportunity to completely unwind anytime you want.
Which Type of Hot Tub is Should I Buy?
There are a wide variety of hot tubs available depending on your needs. From size differences to indoor or outdoor use or both. The choice will depend on what you’re looking for aesthetically and if you intend on using the hot tub for leisure, health or both.
Wooden Hot Tubs
Wooden hot tubs look fantastic aesthetically in gardens. Our favourite is the Lay-Z Spa Helsinki Airjet Hot Tub with a realistic wooden design around the outside, giving it the wooden aesthetic alongside the ability to use it indoors and outdoors.
Sunken Hot Tubs
In ground option
Sunken hot tubs involve creating a space in your garden to allow for the sunken space. One way is by lowering the hot tub into the ground. For this approach the hole should be concrete or brick or else lined with plastic in order to avoid direct contact with the soil. The surrounding area can then be designed to your personal preferences, with tiles, wooden panelling or even some gardening. Since there isn’t a platform, this method is great for anyone with walking difficulties.
Deck/Terrace/Patio Option
A great way to have a sunken hot tub but still have it raised is by building the hot tub into a deck or patio. It is also advantageous as it allows for easy ways to hide the accompanying equipment. All of these little things can be stashed away under the deck for a more aesthetically pleasing option.
Outdoor vs Indoor Hot Tubs
Deciding on having an indoor or outdoor hot tub can be a big decision. Majority of our hot tubs can be used both indoors and outdoors and deciding which you are going to use yours for is best decided by taking a look at the advantages and disadvantages of both.
Indoor Hot Tub Advantages
During colder months of the year your hot tub will provide extra warmth in the room and surrounding rooms where the hot tub is situated.
Indoor Hot tubs have the advantage of having a little extra privacy that you may not be able to get from an outdoor one.
Indoor hot tubs provide privacy and convenience, which outdoor ones sometimes lack.
Indoor Hot Tub Disadvantages
Extra ventilation will be required in the room you choose for your hot tub. This should be taken into consideration ahead of purchase.
Once you add the cost of ventilation plus additional room, indoor hot tubs can cost more than outdoor ones.
Outdoor Hot Tub Advantages
Outdoor hot tubs cost considerably less than indoor hot tubs, when you factor in the costs of ventilation and space for an indoor hot tub.
Many people enjoy the weather and love lounging outdoors in a hot tub. Outdoor hot tubs provide you with the opportunity to relax outdoors in a comfortable temperature, even when the weather isn’t great.
Outdoor Hot Tub Disadvantages
They can often require more maintenance due to debris found outdoors such as leaves and dirt etc.. An indoor hot tub is better protected from the elements and doesn’t require as much maintenance..
Heavy rain, snow or hail may inconvenience individuals which will reduce the amount of time actually spent in the hot tub.
