Clearing Brush

Clearing Brush

Clearing brush can be a nightmare in Ireland. As we step into Spring it doesn’t take long for thick briars, nettles, briars and thick-stemmed weeds to creep out and take over a green space, field or yard. And once summer kicks in it can be require repeated work to keep things from going wild. Thankfully, getting the right tool for the job is not that difficult — and as stockists of Stihl’s excellent machinery, we believe we have one of the most comprehensive ranges of brush cutters Cork has to offer. Let’s take a look at a few:

Clearing Brush Around the House

If you have a garden that gets its fair share of briars, nettles and weeds cropping up around your trees, corners and walls, then the Stihl FS 38 may be the strimmer for the job. This is the lightest model available, so it’s perfect for smaller jobs and maintenance work that doesn’t require hours of heavy-duty labour to clear the way. It weighs in just over four kilograms, making it relatively comfortable to handle, especially if you’re only doing lighter work.

A machine for Heavier Work

Some of us have to contend with larger areas of brush, where a lighter machine just doesn’t cut it. For this, the Stihl FS 56 C-E is a great option. While it weighs significantly more than the FS 38 at five kilograms, what you get is a well-balanced machine with bike handles for better control. The larger engine is supported on a strap around your shoulder, keeping the weight close to your centre of gravity, so that you don’t feel as much pressure on your arms or wrists. This makes it a more comfortable machine for larger workloads.

The Professional’s Choice

If you’re working day-in, day-out and dealing with the toughest overgrowth, paying extra for the best quality tools is a no-brainer. Stihl’s best-performing brushcutter is the Stihl FS 560 C-EM. This is a sturdy, robust tool weighing in at ten kilos. It uses a brush knife to cut through the toughest, thickest weeds. Crucially, it has been engineered to drastically reduce vibration levels, with levels around 3,7/3,7 m/s² compared with around 8 in the FS 56 C-E. This means you can work for hours on end with less numbness, tingling or other sensations commonly felt when dealing with oscillating garden machinery.
