The Segway Hoverboard: Ninebot S

The Segway Hoverboard, the Ninebot S, is an impressive piece of technology. It has a relatively unique form factor compared with regular hoverboards which enable better balance and control and ultimate allow for safer operation.

The Ninebot S‘s knee support does two things. Firstly, it offers improved ‘proprioceptive feedback’. What this means is that it gives your body another way to keep balance. It’s like when you close your eyes and stand on one leg; it’s hard to keep your balance because your brain is relying almost entirely on your visual system to balance and the only other bit of input to show you where you are in space is the feeling under your feet. But if you just touched a wall or a bannister with a little finger without leaning on it, that added input to your brain allows your whole body to better balance. We’ve all seen the YouTube videos of people having nasty (or funny) falls on their hoverboard, this system helps to prevent that.

The knee support’s second benefit is that it offers a better way to control your hoverboard. With a traditional hoverboard, you control direction using pressure on the footrests. If you’re not used to this, it can end up with you losing control very easily. Instead, the Ninebot S uses gentle pressure on the knee supports to dictate which direction you go. It’s a much more intuitive way to control it for those of us who are unaccustomed to a hoverboard.

In addition to proprioceptive balance, the knee rest also gives you better support. It feels more secure riding on a Ninebot S compared with a regular hoverboard. Whether it’s a hoverboard or an e-scooter, everyone should wear protective gear. But Ninebot S’s knee support gives you the added sense of security that many of us need to feel okay taking the risk of riding on one of these contraptions!

Speed and Distance

One of Ninebott S’s killer features is its range. The Segway hoverboard can travel a maximum speed of 16kmph and can reach up to 22 kilometres in range. It’s perfect for getting around as well as for playing around. While you do need to be aware of legal requirements when using such a means of transport, no matter where you use this, you’re going to have some fun.
